China Research Idea: The Wooden Stick

The Wooden Stick

I choose this topic because I wanted to learn more about why the culture made this invention called, Chopsticks a standard or tradition in the Chinese culture.

The culture saw it as an extension on their fingers. The chopstick started out as a twig and then quickly evolved to a wooden stick, it was said that they were not afraid of heat or cold, they soon turned this idea into a tradition and a normality of the culture. My opinion I thought this is a interesting idea and they way they believed it was an extension of their fingers. The way the Chinese culture incorporates different styles of their everyday life intrigues me.

I found this topic by researching some old traditions of Chinese culture. I really like to see the way of an idea so strong that it has lasted throughout generation to generation that became a set standard or like I said normality of the Chinese culture. Overall, cultures outside of anything American really peeks my interest to see how they do this tradition on a daily basis, and the way they have always approached it. If you think about it seems so normal to their culture now but years ago they used fingers and someone came up with an idea to use a chopstick to express their culture and turn it into tradition!

Chopsticks are more than a tradition in China, they are a symbol of the Chinese culture. They go beyond just eating; most things in China always carry some type of legitimate meaning behind them that go beyond just a simple object, such as a chopstick. Chinese culture has always been something that I'm interested in. The culture is a way of life that provides meaning to everything they do.

FACE-TO-FACE

In taking one of the tests, I cam across racial question that were asked. I wasn't offended buy it was a little weird with the question they were asking us. Face-to-Face was interesting to see how peoples lives were different from ours, because of their religions. I learned a lot from the cultures and varieties they gave examples of each and I saw things that showed a different view of cultures and the way they interact, with other beliefs/religions.

I saw the video of the class being divided last year, I thought it was very cool to see how the kids reacted to the different situations and the tasks they were given. I thought this was a very cool experiment and it showed the kids not to treat others differently no matter who they are or what they believe in; or even how they look. The way people are treated today because of how they look, or act or even what they believe in really makes others hurt inside. People might seem like they are fine on the outside but you never know what's going on, on the inside.

Most of the tests were very interesting, and intriguing and I was very interested to learn more about the way people react to different people and cultures!
